introduction

This will be my very first post on anything other than your usual special interest forum, so hang with me for a bit, it will get better.

My name is Scott, I have been a full on, out of the closet gearhead since I was nothing more than a toddler. if something had an engine, then I was enamored with it.

Strange enough, I am not really a big fan of watching motor sports, be it live or on television. I am more of a doer than a watcher.

I have been tuning and building engines for over thirty years. Now, that is not to say I have been doing it right for over thirty years, as a matter of fact, I would say that the majority of those years were spent screwing thing up pretty badly.

The key here is that I do posses the ability to to learn from my mistakes and also admit to fucking something up royally.

Sure, I could have always played it safe, followed along with the chicken little, the sky is falling crowd that tells you if you do something different than what some self proclaimed guru says in a book, then your car will explode as soon as you sit in the drivers seat and probably kill your neighbors as well.

However, taking advice without a full demonstration involving charts, graphs  and a video if possible has never been one of my strong points, I need to try it for myself. Of course that does not apply to everything, I don’t need to see what pouring sand in an intake manifold or hitting myself in the forehead with a hammer will do, but there are a lot of things that seem to really go against the popular line of thinking that work quite well. I know this because I have tried them.

In an attempt to not bore you to drool with my first post, I will end it with this. My posts here will be mainly based on the air cooled VW engine. What to do and what not to do, what I have personally done with great success and what I have personally done that was a massive fail.

As I mentioned earlier, this will be based on over thirty years of trial and error with a hopefully entertaining story or two thrown in.

If i have an opinion, I will share it, but I will tell you that is what it is, opinion, not proven fact. My humor at times can be irreverent with a healthy dose of sarcasm mixed in. I do hope you will hang in there with me and feel free to ask any questions you may have as we go.
